HENDERSON — Albert Anthony Green, 44, has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing $50 worth of steaks from the Brookshire Brothers grocery store in Henderson. A Rusk County jury sentenced Green after he was convicted on the theft charge.

The jury considered Green’s previous seven convictions, including three for felony theft, before handing down the prison sentence.

Toddler Left Alone at Longview Motel

LONGVIEW - A two year old child was found early Thursday morning wondering alone on the second floor balcony of a Longview Motel and another child left unattended in the hotel room.

Longview Police say the mother showed up an hour and half later telling police she left the children at a friend’s house.

22 year old Ariel Wallace is charged with two counts of child abandonment and endangering a child.

Officers also discovered Xanax pills without a prescription in her purse. Wallace was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Tyler Police Crime Statistics Released

Tyler Police Department released its 2011, Part 2 Crimes and Traffic Crashes (Uniform Crime Reporting) statistics for the City of Tyler.

Part 2 Crimes described by Uniform Crime Reporting as Simple Assault, Forgery, Fraud, Embezzlement, Criminal Mischief, Weapon Law Offenses, Prostitution, Sexual Offense, Drug Violations, Family Offenses, DUI, Liquor Law Violation, Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct.

For the calendar year 2011, Part 2 Crimes remained stable at 2.14% when compared to 2010.  When part two crimes for 2011 were compared to 2007, 2008, 2009 it is considerably down around -11%.

The good news for traffic crash data for the year 2011 indicated a decrease of -10.01% when compared to the year 2010 and a steady decline since 2007.

East Texas DPS Troopers Honored

AUSTIN - Four DPS Troopers who are stationed in East Texas were among the recipients of the Texas Heroes Awards presented today in Austin. DPS Director Steven C. McGraw presented 30 awards for extraordinary demonstrations of heroism. The DPS Troopers in East Texas are:

Trooper Robert Bryan received a Director’s Citation for his efforts in evacuating a wounded Harrison County Sheriff’s Deputy from the scene of a gunfight on January 26, 2011.

Corporal Jesse Stewart received a Director’s Citation for his response to a suicide call on January 24, 2010, in Rusk County, during which he negotiated with the subject until medical assistance arrived. Corporal Stewart also received a Lifesaving Award for supporting first responders and performing CPR on a driver who had fallen unconscious on January 25, 2010, near Kilgore. The man’s breathing and pulse were restored, and Corporal Stewart continued CPR until medical assistance arrived.

Trooper Barry Evans received a Lifesaving Award, and James Douglas Beggerly received a Director’s Award, for performing CPR on a subject who had collapsed shortly after being arrested near Tyler.

Trooper Charlie Lunceford received a Lifesaving Award, and Canton Police Department Sergeant Steve Hall received a Director’s Award, for reviving a woman who had fallen unconscious after choking on February 10, 2011.

Downed Power Lines Force Gentry Parkway Closure

TYLER — An accident in Tyler overnight forced police to shut down a major roadway after the driver of a car struck a utility pole knocking down power lines. Police said Gentry Parkway at Queen Street was closed to traffic for several hours until the power company was able to remove the downed power lines from the street.

The driver of the car told police she swerved to avoid hitting an animal and struck the utility pole. She was not injured in the crash.

HAWKINS — Wood County Deputies are looking for a suspect who fled as officers were attempting to serve a warrant in the Hawkins area. Rusty Lynn Pruitt, 51, jumped in his vehicle and led officers on a pursuit that ended when he got out of his vehicle and fled on foot.

Pruitt is wanted on charges of theft and evading arrest.

 

Woman Testifies in Neighbor Torture Case

WEATHERFORD — A Texas woman who prosecutors say was tortured by a former neighbor says she never stopped praying during the 12 days she was held captive. The woman testified yesterday during the trial of Jeffrey Maxwell, who faces up to life in prison if he’s convicted of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.
