A Smith County jailer was arrested Tuesday night for driving while intoxicated and is out on bond after he found himself in a jail cell overnight.

DPS Trooper Jean Dark says 66-year-old Michael Chambers of Tyler was arrested at the scene of a one-vehicle accident on County Road 165 around 9 p.m. Tuesday. Trooper Dark said reports indicated Chambers struck a tree, but he was not injured and was taken to jail following the accident.

Jail records indicate Chambers blood alcohol level was more than .15, twice the legal limit of .08.

Chambers has been with the Smith County Sheriff’s Department since 2005.
