Russell Simmons' had his annual Art for Life benefit this past weekend in Water Mill. Music mogul Kevin Liles took the time to encourage all the guests to get involved and help on the local level.

“There’s a lot of bulls---- going on in the government right now,” Liles said. “There’s a lot of bulls---- going on in local — your mayor, your governor. You guys got to focus on getting out the vote and putting your people in place.”

Public Enemy's Chuck D and DJ Lord took the stage following Liles' speech for a surprise performance of "Fight The Power." The "Mightnight at the Oasis" themed gala was hosted by Soledad O'Brien.

The evening honored former President Consumer Beauty Division, Coty Inc., Esi Eggleston Bracey; rapper, author, and producer, Chuck D; former President of Programming, BET Stephen G. Hill, Chief Brand Officer, Uber, Bozoma Saint John, and the 2017 featured artist, Sanford Biggers. They were honored for their support of the arts, career achievements, and overall commitment to their communities. The benefit raised over 1$.1 million.
