Besides Barbie dolls, Popples were my personal favorite toy of the '80s! My first Popple experience came December 25, 1987, when I was only 6 years old. I received my first Popple for Christmas in Oakland, California!

Since Popples first hit the scene in the '80s, they've had hit cartoons, and even a "make-over" in the '90s, and Y2K. Who knew that a fluffly animal (of course, I never exactly figured out what kind of animal they were) that popped into a ball, would be such a toy adored by so many kids! The toy I loved so much also got me into a lot of trouble -- often.

My next Popple came on my 7th birthday, so naturally I was hooked. Growing up with two older brothers, I often found ways to taunt and harrass them. One Sunday afternoon after church, I was playing in my room when my oldest brother called me a name. Not to be punked, I grabbed a Popple and balled it up, then placed my fist in it. Then I did the same for the other. Armed with my Popples on both fists, I physically attacked my brother -- using my Popples like boxing gloves!

Needless to say, I got in HUGE trouble with my parents and was punished, but I was proud of myself for coming up with such violent innovation.

Believe it or not, there is still a huge market for Popples today! So if you're looking to restart your collection, you're in luck.

Here's a great retro Popples '80s ad!
