Sad news to report from the hip-hop community. Weslyn "Mama Wes" Monroe, the mother of the late UGK rapper Pimp C, died early Sunday morning (Aug. 18). The cause of death has not been released yet.

According to Complex, Monroe was reportedly battling a serious illness and spent the last few days in a hospital in Port Arthur, Texas.

Fellow UGK rapper Bun B wrote a eulogy for Mama Wes on his Instagram page. It reads:

Thanks to everyone that has sent prayers and condolences. She was a great woman. Nurture us from boys to men and made us strong enough to handle this industry. She was the one that kept us going when we didn't wanna go anymore. She was the backbone of UGK, the definition of loyalty, the personification of unconditional love and the essence of what being Trill really meant. She's finally reunited with her son. God bless you both. RIP Mama Wes. You gave everything to make us Underground Kings."

Fellow rhyme-spitter Juicy J also sent his condolences via Twitter with a photo of Monroe and her son, Pimp C. He tweeted, "R.I.P. Moma West & Pimp C."

Music executive Jeff Sledge, the man who signed UGK to Jive Records, also remembered Monroe for her fine cooking and advice. "Great woman..we had great conversations...she taught me a lot..and she made gumbo for me...love you and miss you #mammaWes," he wrote.

Meanwhile, Dec. 4 will mark the six-year anniversary of Pimp C's death. The late rapper was found dead inside a Los Angeles hotel room.

We send condolences to Bun B and to the people "Mama Wes" inspired with her infectious spirit.
