An adorable 3-year-old boy in Peru is undergoing surgery today after doctors found a parasitic twin growing inside his stomach. Dr. Carlos Astocondor, a physician at Las Mercedes Hospital in Chiclayo, has taken this case. He told reports this is extremely rare, and happens about one in every 500,000 births. The "tissue" is a non-fully formed fetus that weights 1 1/2 pounds and roughly nine inches in length.

So, what makes it a parasitic twin? According to Dr. Astocondor, the heart, brain, lungs and intestines never developed while in the mother's womb, thus making the newly discovered "tissue" growing off of the young boy (the host). The parasitic twin, however does have a cranium, eyes and some cartilage.
