O.J. Simpson will face a parole board today (July 20) after spending nine years in a Nevada prison. The former NFL great was hit with a nine-to-33-year sentence in 2007 after he was convicted on kidnapping and armed robbery charges following an incident at a Las Vegas hotel.

If a judge grants his parole, Simpson will most likely be released in October. Simpson’s daughter, Arnelle, and his sister, Shirley Baker, are expected to speak at his parole hearing today. The 70-year-old celebrity has been a model prisoner at Lovelock Correctional Center in Nevada.

"Simpson has stayed out of trouble there," said Brooke Keast, spokeswoman for the Nevada Department of Corrections (via CNN). "We haven't heard much from him."

Thursday's parole hearing follows renewed interest in Simpson's infamous 1995 murder trial, which was explored brilliantly in FX Network's true-crime drama, The People v. O.J. Simpson and other documentaries. It's been 22 years since that not guilty verdict and people are still debating about it.
