With all the attention on former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's retirement announcement, it was easy to overlook the news of another long-time football pro deciding to call it a career.  Longview's own Josh Scobee spent 12 seasons as a kicker in the NFL, 11 with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Scobee starred for the Lobos in high school, then went on to Louisiana Tech.  He won the kicking job for the Bulldogs as a true freshmen, & by the time his college career was over, Josh held the team's all-time scoring records.  That led to him becoming a 5th-round NFL draft selection for Jacksonville. Over the course of his years with the Jags, Scobee became the franchise record-holder in several kicking categories.  In 2015, Josh played 4 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers, then signed with New Orleans last year, but the Saints released him before the season began.  After not being picked up by another team for 2016 game action, Scobee has made the difficult decision to formally hang up his cleats.

NFL.com is reporting that, in a fitting gesture that recognizes Josh's contributions to their organization, Jacksonville will sign Scobee to a one-day contract, so he can retire as a member of the Jaguars.  That ceremonial event is set for 12 noon Central time, next Thursday April 13th.  Congratulations on a fine NFL career, Josh Scobee.  You always made Longview & all of East Texas proud!
