On July 26, Tyler Mosquito Control sent samples of mosquitoes collected in different areas of Tyler to Austin to be tested. The results came back August 2, showing two samples had tested positive for West Nile.

Tyler Mosquito Control routinely sprays areas to help reduce the mosquito population and, also part of their routine, sends mosquitoes caught in the area to be tested. The areas where samples came back positive have been treated and residents in the area have been informed.

What are some ways to protect yourself from mosquitoes?

  • Deet: use insect repellent while outdoors at all times to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes and other insects.
  • Dress: wear long, loose and light-colored clothing – including pants and long sleeves.
  • Drain: drain all standing water in and around the home and office.
  • Dusk and Dawn: limit outdoor activities during the dusk and dawn hours as mosquitoes are most active during those times.

If you notice a mosquito breeding area, call Tyler Mosquito Control at 903-535-0045.
