Missy Elliott Not Informed About Upcoming Aaliyah Project
It seems like everyone knows about the upcoming posthumous Aaliyah album … except for Missy Elliott. The veteran rapper who has collaborated with the late songbird seems to be out of the loop when it comes to the project that Drake and his producer Noah “40″ Shebib are co-executive producing.
When one of her followers on Twitter asked Missy about the polarizing Aaliyah project, she surprisingly tweeted back, “I had no clue there was one no 1 told me.” The tweet has since been deleted, but it lives on in retweets thanks to Global Grind.
This is in stark contrast to reports that everyone is onboard with the project. In an interview with Billboard.biz, Aaliyah’s cousin Jomo Hankerson, who co-owns Blackground Records, said that Timbaland and Missy would contribute to the album. “One of the records that we had that was never released was a Missy record that we obviously are going to be refreshing,” he said, adding, “I can tell you that Timbaland will definitely be involved, Missy will definitely be involved.”
In an interview with MuchMusic, Drake stated that he would include those who worked closely with Aaliyah on the project. “We’re going to pull in some classic people like anybody who used to work with Aaliyah and [were] essential in her career we definitely hope to have them involved,” he says. “It’s great, you get a new Aaliyah album this year on top of everything.”
Since the online release of Aaliyah’s ‘Enough Said’ on Soundcloud, the song has racked up over 2,000 retweets and over 700,000 listens.
