Tyler Police have released the name of the man struck and killed early this morning while attempting to cross the Troup Highway.

Police say 41-year-old David Wayne Bickerdike of Tyler was crossing the highway and was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Susan Helgesen, 58 ,of Tyler.

No citations have been issued. Police say Helgesen did not see Bickerdike because he was wearing dark clothing.

The accident occured around 4:45 a.m. Monday in the 55 hundred block of the Troup Highway in Tyler.

 

Shots Fired Leaves Two Hospitalized in Tyler

A shooting in Tyler Sunday night has left two people hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Police say the shooting occurred at 9:45 p.m. in the one thousand block of West Shaw Street.

The victims who could not identify the shooter were driven to the hospital in a private vehicle.

The shooting remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made at this time.

 

Longview Police Looking for Driver of Car Involved in Fatal Hit and Run

On July 28, 2012 at 12:30 a.m., Longview Police Department Sergeant Doug Brinkley noticed a man lying in a grassy field located in the 300 Block of West Cotton Street.

Officers learned the victim was walking westbound on Cotton Street when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene.

The victim, identified as Jason Lee Johnson 20, of Longview, was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The suspect’s vehicle will have major damage to the right front headlight area. Longview Police are asking for anyone with information about this incident to contact Officer Brandon Thornton at 903-237-1196. Weekend Accident Claims Life of East Texan

One person is dead and another person is hospitalized in critical condition following a one vehicle crash Saturday in Franklin County.

DPS says Jerry Paul Bellomy, 28, of Winnsboro, was a passenger in a car driven by Kacey Preston, 27 also of Winnsboro. Bellomy was pronounced dead at the scene after Preston lost control of the car in a curve and struck a tree. Preston is in critical condition suffering from blunt force trauma to his head and chest

The fatal wreck occurred at 1:46 a.m. on State Highway 37.

DPS says the driver and passenger were not wearing seat belts.
