As a Longview resident, it is deeply troubling to me to know that we have such a high number of homeless women in the city I call home. With temperatures recently dropping as low as 38 degrees, The House of Hope women's shelter in Longview has seen a large increase in the women needing a warm place to stay.

While shelter director, Helen Johnson has a heart to help all women in need, the shelter has now surpassed its maximum capacity and resources to meet the needs of those housed at the shelte. Cots and air mattresses have served as a place of retirement for the night, as the shelter is currently housing 79 women per night at one time with only 42 beds.

Johnson is calling for the community's help to meet the food and monetary needs of the shelter. Check out their Facebook Page to learn how you can help.
