Miracle League of East Texas has been working to build a baseball field in Lear Park for children with disabilities. Donations have come in from across East Texas but they have also received donations of building materials and a $20,000 donation from the Globe Life Texas Rangers Grant Program. All have helped bring the dream of this field to life.

And now, Longview native Chris Davis, who is one of the top home run hitters in Major League Baseball for the Baltimore Orioles, has donated $50,000 to the project.

President of the Board of Directors of the Miracle League of East Texas, Chris Stuckey, made the announcement of the donation Wednesday (February 22) according to the Longview News Journal.

Spencer Mack, who is a Miracle League board member and classmate of Davis, reached out to Chris to get his support.

"When you think about East Texas and baseball, Chris Davis is going to come to mind, and when you have a project like this, he's the guy that pops in your head," Chris Stuckey said. "He went above and beyond anything we could've honestly imagined. It means a lot, and it's cool to see. He's a Maryland resident now, but he has his roots in Longview, and it means a lot to him."

As of now, the field is between 30 to 40 percent complete.
