NBA superstar LeBron James spoke about racial inequality in a press conference after his home was vandalized with a racial slur.

“No matter how much money you have, no matter how famous you are, no matter how many people admire you, being black in America is tough,” said James. “We got a long way to go, for us as a society and for us as African-Americans, until we feel equal in America.”

On Wednesday (May 31) the Los Angeles Police Department was called to James’ home to investigate after his front gate was spray painted with the “N-word.” James was not home at the time of the incident.

“My family is safe. At the end of the day, they’re safe and that’s the most important,” James said during the press conference.

James has always been very vocal on race issues— he publicly took a stand on the wrongful deaths of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and Mike Brown.

“It just goes to show that racism will always be a part of the world, a part of America,” James added. “And hate in America, especially for African-Americans, is living every day.”

Detectives are still investigating the incident and there currently have been no arrests made. Watch James’ full press conference above.
