The writing was on the wall after a very rocky 2013-2014 season and failure to make the playoffs.

The New York Knicks fired Mike Woodson as head coach, per President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson.

"I felt Woodson was not the man to take us back to NBA prominence," said Jackson, who took over the team in March.

There are many candidates who will line up to replace Woodson, notably Steve Kerr, who played for Jackson with the Chicago Bulls.

No replacement has been announced at this time.
