Hip-hop is mourning the passing of freedom fighter Nelson Mandela. In light of the South African leader's death yesterday, Kendrick Lamar urges his fans to learn about him.

"Advising all my young ones that follow me to research a small piece of Nelson Mandela Life. That's how you pay your respect...... GO!" Kendrick tweeted.

Other musicians have echoed the sentiment. "One of the greatest men who's ever lived!!! #Legend We will never forget the things this man has taught us, and we will never truly comprehend the level of strength that it took for him to endure many of his years!! Thank you #Mandela" Rihanna shared on Instagram. "I've never been so honored to meet anyone #Mandela," said John Legend added, with a photo of himself and the civil rights leader.

Nelson Mandela was the former president of South Africa, who steered the country from apartheid to democracy two decades ago. He passed away Thursday (Nov. 5) after battling an ongoing infection in his lungs at the age of 95 years old.
