Chart-topping artists Kelly Clarkson, Usher and Nelly Furtado have been added to the star-studded list of performers for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. ABC will air the event live from Las Vegas at 8PM ET on May 20.

The three superstars will join previously announced artists Justin Bieber, Cee Lo Green and Carrie Underwood, with more performers and presenters to be added in the coming weeks.

Clarkson is having a strong year (excuse the pun) with her latest album ‘Stronger.’ The pop siren recently shot a video for her third single ‘Dark Side’ and she will hit the road with the Fray this summer.

Usher will most likely perform his No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single ‘Climax’ at the BMAs. The R&B crooner also plans to drop his seventh album ‘Lookin’ For Myself’ on June 12.

Finally, Nelly Furtado is prepping her fifth release ‘The Spirit Indestructible’ (due June 19). She just released her new track, ‘Big Hoops (Bigger the Better),’ and completed a video for the song.

Pop stars Adele, LMFAO, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne are among the leading nominees for this year’s BMAs. Adele is nominated in a whopping 18 categories, while LMFAO is close behind her with 17 mentions. RiRi is a finalist in 13 award categories, and Gaga and Weezy both have 10 nominations each.

‘Modern Family’ co-stars Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen are the hosts for the Billboard Music Awards. Overall, this should be a fun and entertaining night for everyone involved. See you there!
