Kanye West Cries During Expansive Interview with Zane Lowe [VIDEO]
Kanye West has done plenty of interviews in the past few weeks, some of which were very revealing and informative. On Thursday (Feb. 26), Yeezy visited BBC Radio 1 host Zane Lowe again for an expansive interview in which he discussed a myriad of topics including his new Adidas sneaker collaboration, his relationship with Kim Kardashian and new music.
Last time the two spoke, which was in 2013, West was frustrated with being ostracized by the fashion industry. This was also around the same time when the rapper-producer exited Nike and was fielding offers from other sneaker companies (eventually, he signed with Adidas).
In his new interview with Lowe, ‘Ye is calm and focused. Now that the Adidas Yeezy Boost sneaker is in stores, he feels a sense of victory. However, he did apologize to his fans for releasing such an expensive footwear. He hopes to bring down the price point so everyone can own a pair of Yeezys.
“Everyone should have an opportunity to drink from the same fountain,” he said. “Exclusivity is the new N-word, because nothing should be exclusive. The idea of exclusivity is another colored-people fountain concept!”
West also discussed making music with Paul McCartney, particularly with “Only One” and “FourFiveSeconds” with Rihanna. He recalled their studio sessions as liberating and one of his most productive times of his career. “The type of chord changes that Paul does, I don't even understand them,” he said. “Meeting Paul McCartney is like meeting Ralph Lauren. The greatest of their field of all time, period.”
At one point, West cries while talking about one his major influences: the late Louise Wilson, a British professor of fashion design at Central St Martins. "I went to Louise Wilson's memorial, the greatest fashion instructor of all time,” he said. "I didn't know we were going to lose her," he adds before weeping on air. Zowe calls for a quick brake and the video fades to black. When they return, West reveals, "That's never happened to me in an interview before."
As for his new album, West is still working on the project and there’s no release date yet because, as he once said, release dates are played out. “[I'm] just working hard on it. It's fun to work hard. We're being inventive,” he states. “I've still got a lot of opinions and perspectives that I think are important and can be inspiring to people. This new album is coming out of a desire to design.”
