Last night (June 15), Jay Z made history when his good friend President Obama inducted him into the Songwriters Hall of Fame via video, making him the first rapper to ever be voted in. Hov wasn't able to attend the ceremony in New York—he was with his wife Beyoncé , who could give birth to twins at any moment—so Warner Chappell Music CEO Jon Platt gave a touching speech on his behalf.

During his speech, which was given at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City, Platt reflected on the significance of Jay being inducted into the hallowed grounds of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a place where no other rapper has been.

"Jay Z accepts not just the benefits of his fame, but also the responsibilities of it," Platt says in the speech. "He understands what his work means to his millions of fans around the world just as much as he understands how important it is that he’s becoming the first rap artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. And he also knows that so many came before him that didn’t get this opportunity and didn’t receive this honor."

Hov wasn't at the ceremony, but he made sure to offer up his praises to every rapper who's inspired him over the years, using his Twitter account to do so.

Hov began his Twitter thank you spree with a shout out to the rappers that preceded him. "Thank you to all the people that have inspired me. Rakim KANE KRS chuck cube Jaz Em Andre Nas big PAC cole kendrick chance jayE ..wait," the Roc Nation boss said in one tweet. As we said, that was just the beginning.

Over the course of 13 tweets, Jay thanked Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, Chuck D, Ice Cube, Jaz-O, Eminem, André 3000, Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, Kendrick Lamar, Chance The Rapper, Jay Electronica, Lauryn Hill, Nicki Minaj, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Common, Kanye, Drake, Meek Mill, Run-DMC, Grandmaster Caz, LL Cool J, 2 Chainz, Cam’ron, T.I., Q-Tip, Black Thought, Pharoahe Monch, Scarface, De La Soul, Ice-T, Kool G Rap, Melle Mel, Kurupt, Lox, DMX, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, Foxy Brown, Bo$$, Rick Ross, Quavo, Future, Travis Scott, Tee Grizzley (he said Grizzley's song "First Day Out" is the best song out right now) and many more.
