While Janet Jackson is gearing up to headline the Essence Music Festival July 8th she has opened up and wrote a letter about her battle with depression in her thirties in the July/August issue of Essence Magazine.

CNN report, in the article Janet describe her thirties as her difficult years as she struggled with depression.

These were difficult years, when I struggled with depression. The struggle was intense. I could analyze the source of my depression forever. Low self-esteem might be rooted in childhood feelings of inferiority.

Janet's depression continued in her fourties as she batted voices in her head beraiting her and questioning her value.  She explained that reunion with old friends would make her happy and even a call from a colleague, but her felt her failed relationships were her fault and she would fall into dispair.

Now at 52-years-old, Janet is much better as being a parent to her son is described as the height of happiness.  She is thankful to God her life, energy and the ability to grow in love.
