Local East Texas Fire Departments in need of supplies. (i.e Gatorade, water, fruit, etc etc). As you know we have many hard working men and women out fighting the wild fires that are endangering lives and destroying everything in it's path. We have been able to contact a few local area fire departments and have a list of where you can drop off some much needed supplies.

-Cass County

Firefighters in Avinger are in need of the following items: Tube socks, saline drops (NO Visine), saline nose spray, snacks, Benadryl, Ibuprofen, and chapstick.  NO water is needed at this time!  Contact Susan Young at 903-645-7960 for more information.

-Smith County

Donations can be made at the Tyler Fire Department administration building on Houston Street in Tyler (behind the Rose Garden). Checks can be made payable to: Smith County Volunteer Fire Department Association or the Red Cross

-Cherokee County

If you would like to help the firefighters in Cherokee and southern Smith County you can donate at the Pct. 3 office on Highway 79 west in Jacksonville.

-Marion County Fire Department

They are accepting food, high energy snack foods (granola bars, trail mix, etc), hand towels, wipes, and lip balm.

At the present time, they have enough water and Gatorade.

These brave "neighbors" are working in conjunction with Cass County Fire Department since several of the fires are on the Marion/Cass County lines. (Thank you to a KNUE listener J. Lawrence who provided us with this information)

 

-Henderson County

Donations accepted at Henderson County Courthouse in Athens on Wednesday (9/7) from 4p-6p and Saturday (9/10) from 11a-1p. Donations of bottled water and sports drinks, high energy snack foods (granola bars, trail mix, etc), hand towels, wipes, and lip balm.

Other areas that we know are affected by the fires are Sabine, Clarksville, Justin, New Diana, Hallville and Ore city.
