Friends of 26-year-old Steven Kloppe say they are not surprised that he was lending a helping hand to a stranger when he slipped and fell off a bridge Sunday night on I-20 near Lindale.

Police say Kloppe was attempting to help a motorist who had spun out of control on the rain slick highway. Kloppe was attempting to reach the driver of the vehicle by climbing onto to the bridge railing when he slipped and fell 30 feet landing on a railroad spur.

He was taken to a Tyler hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
