Tyler residents have been patronizing both of the Gilbert's El Charro mexican restaurants for decades, but now the era has come to an end.

Multiple news outlets are reporting both of the Gilbert's El Charro restaurants in Tyler have closed, permanently.

A sign outside the Gilbert's El Charro No. 2 location at the corner of Loop 323 and Fifth Street has a sign on the door that reads, "We would like to thank you for 69.5 years and 3 days of wonderful memories. We love y'all. Gilbert's El Charro Rest. are now officially closed."

El Charro also confirmed the news on its Facebook page:

No other reasons were explained.

The original Gilbert's El Charro on East Erwin Street has been closed since early May for renovations, boasting a sign encouraging patrons to visit the No. 2 location. But it appears those doors will stay closed for good.

Both El Charro Restaurants were owned by the Ramirez family, and the original El Charro, especially, was a local favorite for generations.

It's truly a sad day for Tyler and our local business community.
