The first scheduled execution of 2019 has been stopped by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, according to TylerPaper.com. The court has cited changes in the science pertaining to bite marks. Also at hand are laws about "intellectual disability and the death penalty," according to TylerPaper.com.

Blaine Milam was scheduled to be executed today (January 15) after being convicted of the death of his girlfriend's 13-month-old daughter. The murder happened here in East Texas 11 years ago in 2008.

“Because of recent changes in the science pertaining to bite mark comparisons and recent changes in the law pertaining to the issue of intellectual disability ... we therefore stay his execution and remand these claims to the trial court for a review of the merits of these claims,”

according to the order.
