For the past year, Iggy Azalea has been the most polarizing figure in hip-hop. Everyone has chimed in -- good and bad -- about the Aussie rapper’s cultural appropriation when it comes to the genre. Philadelphia superstars Eve and Jill Scott recently appeared on the 'Sway in the Morning' radio program and offered their thoughts on Azalea's success and how it impacts black artists.

Eve was very diplomatic with her opinion stating, “At the end of the day I get it. I get that people might be upset about certain things, yeah she's white but they grew up with our s---. Hip-hop is everywhere -- every neighborhood, every country, every city. Yes, it's from us and it's our thing but she's representing a group of girls right now as well."

Admittedly, however, the famed “pitbull in a skirt” rapper is not a huge fan of Azalea’s music. She believes that people are too quick to put artists on a pedestal before they really accomplish anything significant in hip-hop. “That's the one thing I just can't stand. Let her do her thing. It's not my cup of tea but she's representing for somebody,” she said. “She's doing her thing. What are you gonna do?"

Scott also concurs with Eve and compared the ‘Fancy’ rapper’s lyrical style to Da Brat. However, Jilly From Philly is quick to point out she has been compared to Sarah Vaughn and other songbirds.

Azalea’s vocal tone was also discussed in the conversation. Critics have accused the Aussie rapper of biting from southern artists. Some have even called it “verbal blackface.” Both Eve and Scott agreed that her accent doesn’t sound original before describing it as a “blaccent.” "She's from a different place and I've said this before, it would be dope to hear her with her swag," said Eve. "Who are you, what are you, what is that?"

“Australians are so dope,” she added. “From the singers, to the music to the fashion. They have it. That’s my only thing about it. I just wish there was a little bit more of possibly inserting where she came from.”
