East Texas Fall Fairs And Festivals
It's fair time in East Texas! With all of the fairs coming through East Texas it usually means cooler weather too! We can hopefully say goodbye to the stifling heat and humidity as cooler weather comes into play just in time for us to get our fill of fair food! Whether it's a turkey leg, footlong corn dog, funnel cake or something fried, there will be plenty of it on hand! Plus the midway will be there with all the flashing lights, loud music and screams from thrillseekers! Here's what we can look forward to this fall:
Gregg County Fair
When: Friday, September 9th thru Saturday, September 17th
Where: Gregg County Fair Grounds - 1123 Jaycee Dr. Longview, TX 75604
Open nightly 6 p.m.- 4 p.m. (except on weekends open at 4 p.m.)
There are special ride armband nights that range from $1.00 per ride to unlimited rides with one price. All shows are free with your paid admission and include a petting zoo, the Miss Gregg County pageant, swine races, magic shows, bands and more.
There will be plenty of corn dogs and cotton candy on hand with your chance to experience a ton of stomach churning rides!
East Texas State Fair
WHEN: Friday, September 23rd thru Sunday, October 2nd
WHERE: East Texas Fair Grounds - 2112 West Front St. Tyler, TX 75702
Open daily 2 p.m.- 11 p.m. (except Saturday & Sunday 10 a.m. - 11 p.m.)
East Texans look forward to the longest running fair in East Texas. The East Texas Fair offers something for everyone in the family - there are rides, plenty of food and shows for every age.
Shows this year include an extreme high dive show, animal petting zoo, sand sculpting along with nightly concerts. The midway is filled with all kinds of rides from the traditional merry-go-round to the thrilling ride called the Freak Out. There are specials that will run throughout the fair on ride tickets including arm band nights which will allow you to ride as many rides as you can for one low price.
Of course there's entertainment on the concert stage which includes performances from J.B. and the Moonshine Band, Restless Heart, Erin Kinsey, Urban Rescue, Hudson Moore, Tracy Bird, Jeff Allen and more! Also have fun consuming your share of fried 0reos, corn dogs, cotton candy, smoked turkey legs and more!
Gilmer Yamboree
WHEN: Wednesday, October 19th thru Saturday, October 22nd
WHERE: Courthouse Square Gilmer, TX
Activities planned daily 9 a.m.-11 p.m.
The East Texas Yamboree celebrates that yam! Year after year thousand flock to downtown Gilmer to celebrate this vegetable. It is celebrated with a carnival, Queen's Coronation Pageant and parade, livestock show and a barn dance. There's also entertainment on the stage from rising stars right here in East Texas.
Fire Ant Festival
WHEN: Saturday, October 8th
WHERE: Austin St. & W. Rusk St. Marshall, TX
It's one of the most unique festivals hosted in East Texas! Marshall celebrates the things that most homeowners want to kill and out of their yard - the fire ant! In addition to its unique name there are some pretty zany contests that go along with this festival, including, a fire ant calling contest, rubber chicken chunking, gurning (ugly face making contest), a diaper derby and a men's Crazy Legs contest.
There is also a bike ride called the Tour de Fire Ant that includes a 5K too. You can raise your heart rate in the Six Feet in the Street 5K or participate in the 42 tournament.
Syrup Festival
WHEN: Saturday, November 12th
WHERE: Downtown Henderson, TX
9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The tradition of making ribbon cane syrup is celebrated each year in Henderson for the Annual Heritage Syrup Festival. One of the highlights is the syrup making demonstration on the grounds of the Depot Museum, where they operate and produce old fashioned cane syrup using antique equipment that is powered by mules.
In addition there are all kinds of art demonstrations, food vendors, folk singers, a petting zoo, hay rides, children's activities and live entertainment on two different stages.
