It's privilege-checkin' time — Netflix hit Dear White People will officially return for a third season in 2019, the team announced Thursday (June 21).

Giancarlo Esposito — who has served as the show's resident narrator — confirmed Season 3 in a video uploaded to YouTube that includes a nod to the show's Order of X plot line.

“Now that I have your attention, this message is being delivered to you on behalf of the Order of X,” Esposito says. “I come with a message of truth. To clarify the false information that’s being disseminated around the world today: Dear White People will be returning to Netflix for a season 3. We’ll meet you there.”

Dear White People's second season included an arc that found Samantha White (Logan Browning) and Lionel Higgins (DeRon Horton) exploring the possibility of a secret black society on the campus of the elite Winchester College. The finale found the two students finally face to face with a seeming member of the group, played by Esposito.

Show creator Justin Simien told Entertainment Weekly he's thrilled by the chance to tell a third collection of stories, particularly as the first two seasons of Dear White People take place across only a single semester.

"So, I’m really curious to see what happens in the spring, to see what happens with a little bit of distance from these characters and sort of allow them to absorb what just happened to them,” he said. “There’s just a whole host of topics that are still on the table from seasons 1 and 2, even stuff that didn’t make the movie I’m dying to dive into.”
