Winter will soon descend upon East Texas, and bring with it much colder temperatures. It'll be time to break out the jackets and coats to keep our kids warm, but that will not be happening for a lot of East Texas children.

Many kids will go without a coat to stay warm this winter, a fact that is hard to imagine but is a reality for a lot of kids. We all can help correct this though with the Coats For Kids campaign.

Participating dry cleaners locations throughout Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville, Lindale and more will be participating this year by collecting new and gently used coats that will be cleaned and distributed to Longview Community Ministries and PATH in Longview and Tyler and given to kids in need of a jacket or coat this winter.

The following dry cleaners are participants in the Coats for Kids campaign:

  • The Cleaning Company
  • Dry Clean Super Center
  • Hart's Cleaners
  • Progress Cleaners
  • Regency Cleaners
  • Shannon's Cleaners
  • Alpine Cleaners
  • Dry Clean Super Center
  • McLendon Cleaners
  • Sno-White Laundry
  • Village Cleaners
  • Family Cleaners

Just drop off a gently used coat that your child has outgrown by Saturday, Oct. 31 and these dry cleaners will clean them and get it ready for another child to wear.

Coats will be distributed to children that need them on the following dates:

  • In Longview: Saturday, Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Broughton Recreation Center at 801 MLK Blvd.
  • In Tyler: Saturday, Nov. 21 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the old Griffin Elementary gym at 3000 N. Border Ave.

Please contact Longview Community Ministries or PATH for required documentation that will be required in order to receive a coat through the Coats for Kids campaign.
