Bun B found himself in the news when a video surfaced of him confronting a Donald Trump supporter. In the clip, he yells at a man who flipped him the middle finger. “I’m a college professor,” he tells the offender.

In an interview with The FADER, the veteran rhymer explains that it was an old clip, shot about a year ago while he was covering the Republican National Convention in Cleveland for VICE. However, Bun B says it’s an important video to watch in the wake of the white nationalist rally and terrorist attack in Charlottesville, Va.

"I think it's important for people to know this is an old video," he said. "This isn't six months after the election, this is six months before. This is how emboldened these people were at the time that Trump was on the road verbalizing this divisive rhetoric. They were already emboldened by what Trump was saying on the campaign trail before he even had the Republican nomination. It was just as explicit then, but now there's more of them. They've built their numbers up significantly."

Bun B added that it's important for people to not ignore white supremacy and urged everyone to fight back with tolerance and love.

"We're not gonna win by being just as ugly as they are — that's not ever how this has worked," he said. "We've got to be just as firm in our conviction for our love as they are for their hate. That's where the difference comes in."

"They're willing to die for their hate, we have to be willing to die for our love and for the future of this world," he continues. "It's the conviction in these moments that makes the difference in the fight."
