How Much Do You Spend on Graduation Gifts? [POLL]
Seeing how the spring semester recently wrapped up for a lot of college students and with high school graduation coming up soon, the graduation invitations are in the mail and going out. With their arrival, a couple of questions came to my mind:
Komen Tyler Race for the Cure is Saturday
Thousands of people from around East Texas will be descending upon Bergfeld Park Saturday morning for the annual Komen Tyler Race For The Cure. All of these people have one mission in common, to help find a cure for breast cancer. Plus, they all have a different reason for participating too, whether it’s in the 5k run/walk, 50 yard kid’s dash or the 1 mile fun run/walk, they’re doing it for something. Memory of a loved one who was lost to breast cancer, a survivor, to better their own health – everyone has a reason.
Confederate Flag Prom Dress — Should This Girl Be Able to Wear It? [POLL/VIDEO]
It’s prom season here in East Texas, and high school juniors and seniors have been busy planning the evening. And more importantly for the girls, they’re searching for the perfect dress. Everything has to be perfect for the young lady attending the prom right down to her accessories. Yesterday, we posted a story online highlighting six of the wackiest prom dresses. One of the dresses really caught my attention — not necessarily the dress, but the situation around it.
Longview Lady Lobos Basketball Camp Set for June
Looking at the school calendar, there are only four weeks left until summer. Kids throughout East Texas will be having a ton of fun during the vacation but it doesn’t mean they don’t have to quit learning and practicing, because after all, practice makes perfect. If you have a young lady who is interested in basketball, then Longview Lady Lobos’ head coach Keith Smith would love to have her attend this years’ Lady Lobos Basketball Camp.
Kilgore’s Downtown Merchants Plan Sidewalk Sale For Saturday
I know how much ladies love a sale (and some of you guys too) and there’s a big one coming up Saturday in downtown Kilgore. Retail merchants will be turning back the clock for their annual Retro Retail Sidewalk Sale.
Are You Owed Money or Property from the State of Texas?
I was reading this morning that Jason Mraz has some unclaimed money waiting for him in the state of West Virginia according to the state treasurer there. It’s believed the money is tied to a concert that was held there a couple of years ago. I’ve always heard there was a list like this out there so I went searching to see if I had any money coming to me from the great state of Texas!
Free Movie In Park Series Continues In Tyler
Last Saturday the Tyler Parks and Recreation Department was scheduled to show the movie Dolphin Tale for free at Bergfeld Park, but high winds cancelled the showing. This weekend the series is set to continue with a free showing of Kung Fu Panda.
What East Texas Post Offices Are Open Late For Tax Day?
Whether you’re due a refund or you gotta pay Uncle Sam, your federal taxes will need to be postmarked by midnight Tuesday, April 17. From past experiences, I’ve learned that if people are expecting a refund they’ll get their taxes done just as soon as that W-2 arrives in the mail, but those thinking they’ll have to pay a little or a lot will wait until the deadline to file that tax return (which I don’t blame them!).
Mega Millions Jackpot Has Palestine Winner & Jackpot Continues To Grow
The Texas Lottery‘s Mega Millions jackpot drawing was estimated to be $363 million for last nights’ drawing, unfortunately there was no winner of the jackpot after the numbers were drawn and announced. However, an East Texan did win a cool $250,000 though by matching 5 out of 5 numbers and that ticket was sold at an East Texas convenience store!
Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday With The Tyler Library
I think just about everyone knows of or has read a Dr. Seuss book sometime. With so many books available it’s hard to pick out my favorite. So my list of top 3 favorites would include The Cat In The Hat, Green Eggs And Ham and How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Dr. Seuss’ creator, Theodore Geisel, would be celebrating his birthday next Friday (March 2nd), but he past away in 1991.
In his honor the Tyler Public Library is throwing a birthday bash for Dr. Seuss Thursday & Friday, March 1st and 2nd for preschool children in the Library Auditorium.
