Anthony David Drops His First Album in Four Years, ‘The Powerful Now’
After four years, singer-songwriter Anthony David is back with a new album, The Powerful Now.
On the LP, David plays around with different genres including Afrobeat in "I Don't Mind" and rock in "Out of My League." The 12-track album runs the musical gamut; David dabbles in R&B, pop, country, jazz and of course, soul throughout the project. India Arie is featured on the track "Beautiful Problem;" with Mylah, Reesa Renee and Carmen Rodgers also making appearances.
The Powerful Now is the first album from David since 2012's Love Out Loud. Its slated to be released on Friday (Aug. 26). Lucky for us, Soulbounce is letting fans get an exclusive listen to the album here.
"The songs [on the album] are kind of all over the place … I wasn’t trying to stick with a theme, so each [song] is a moment. Over the past four years, I wrote each one of them kind of like: If I’m at a coffee shop, I’d come up with this moment and write a song about it. … So it’s about the now. But then also, just as a person, I’m not what they call a 'utopian;' I’m a 'protopian.' Meaning that this time, I believe, is better than before, and the future generally gets better. I mean … I could sit back and yap about what we did, but I want to make every 'now' good."
If you're looking for a more mobile listening experience, fans can head over to Amazon, iTunes or Google Play to pre-order the album. Also, if you happen to be in Atlanta, David is hosting a listening party for The Powerful Now at BQE Restaurant and Lounge on Sunday (Aug. 28) at 8 p.m.
"Have to celebrate the album release w a listening party and short acoustic performance in ATL!" read an Instagram post from David. "Just a Small treat before #thepowerfulnow tour is announced. Come hang out with me NEXT SUNDAY at my watering hole."
