Aldi, a grocery store chain based in Germany, is set to open its first East Texas location in Tyler next year.

According to the Tyler Morning Telegraph, the store will go up at 200 SSW Loop 323, near the Walmart Supercenter at State Highway 64 and Loop 323. It is scheduled to open in Spring of 2016.

Aldi primarily sells products of its own brand, most of the time at lower prices than its competitors. According to its Facebook page, "If you enjoy finding the highest quality products, including fresh produce, at the lowest possible prices in a simple and easy-to-navigate shopping environment, then ALDI is for you. Smart shoppers have found that switching from national brands to ALDI exclusive brands can save them up to 50 percent* on more than 1,300 of the most commonly purchased grocery items."

“We’re excited to bring our simply smarter shopping to Tyler, where customers can save 50 percent on more than 1,300 of the most commonly purchased grocery items ...,” Scott Huska, vice president of Aldi’s Denton division, told the newspaper.

Aldi has nearly 1,400 stores in the U.S. and is currently in the process of adding 650 new locations.

In addition to normal food and produce, Aldi also will offer its "Fit & Active" products, as well as organic and gluten-free options.

This comes after Walmart announced it will be building three new stores in Tyler -- two Neighborhood Market locations and one Supercenter. Aldi will become the 18th grocery store in Tyler.
