Thirteen years after her untimely death, Aaliyah’s life will be celebrated in the Lifetime Original Movie ‘Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B.’ The singer, who was considered an icon at just 22, got her start when she was signed to Jive Records at the age of 12. By 1994 she changed the game when she released her debut album, ‘Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number.’ That album catapulted her into stardom and eventually reached platinum status with the help of the R. Kelly written and produced tracks like ‘Back and Forth’ and ‘At Your Best (You Are Love).’

Since she had already performed in Las Vegas with her aunt Gladys Knight before she was a teen, it was no surprise when Aaliyah released her sophomore album, ‘One in a Million’ in 1996, while she was still in high school. Her second effort showcased a more mature sultry slice of R&B heaven and eventually sold 2 million units. The songstress continued to reach for the stars and by 1998 she scored her first Grammy nod for her No.1 hit ‘Are You That Somebody?’

Already a musical powerhouse, Aaliyah fulfilled another dream, when she starred in the 2000 film ‘Romeo Must Die,’ alongside DMX and Jet Li. In addition to flexing her acting chops, Aaliyah was also the executive producer of the movie’s soundtrack, which featured her award winning hit ‘Try Again.’ Her third self-titled LP debuted at No. 2 on the charts in July 2001, and was her last album before her tragic death on Aug. 25, 2001.

Aaliyah’s influence and presence in music culture was so profound, which causes her legacy to live on today. Her voice can be heard through remakes of her music -- thanks to Drake and Chris Brown, in fashion as embraced by Tinashe and Angel Haze and most notably in dance moves from Ciara to Mila J. With the Lifetime Original Movie premiere of the highly-anticipated film set to air on Nov. 15 at 8/7c, we take a look at some of Aaliyah’s epic moments from the stage to the big screen.
