Ever since it was rumored that Drake is executive producing Aaliyah‘s posthumous album, fans have been wondering what the late songbird’s family thought of this idea. According to Rolling Stone, they don’t want no part of it.

Rashad Haughton, Aaliyah’s brother, posted a message on his sister’s Facebook fan page, denouncing the project. “There is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family,” he wrote on Monday (Aug. 6). He then asked, “Do you want an AALIYAH album? If so, Who should executive produce it or be featured on it? The Haughton Family would love to hear what her FANS have to say?”

According to reports, an Aaliyah album is in the works and Timbaland is slated to produce two songs while Drizzy’s longtime producer Noah “40″ Shebib is handling the bulk of the productions. Although Rashad said that his family isn’t supporting the project, Blackground Records, which is run by the singer’s uncle Barry Hankerson, was behind the Drake-Aaliyah song ‘Enough Said.’ So it’s likely that Hankerson owns the rights to Aaliyah’s unreleased vocals and is backing the project.

Some critics think that Drake shouldn’t be overseeing the album because he hasn’t met or known Aaliyah outside of her music. But after listening to ‘Enough Said’ we think he’s capable of capturing the essence of Aaliyah sans rapping about his haters and presumedly dissing Chris Brown. It certainly would be out of place if Timbaland and Missy Elliott are not on the album.

What do you think? Should the Aaliyah project moved forward despite objection from the immediate family? Tell us in the comments below.
